October 2022: Ministry Update

GET YOUR FAITH DIRTY

Monday, October 17, we will be hosting the Inaugural TREC International – Stan Sherlin Memorial Golf Tournament at Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery, AL. We are super excited to get out and meet people, raise some money for a worthy cause, and honor Stan Sherlin. We realize many of you may not have known Stan, but in our world, Stan was a good friend, a faithful follower of Jesus, an honorable businessman, and an avid golfer. We all loved Stan and he loved us. We miss him and want to honor Stan in some way, and a golf tournament seemed appropriate. He would love that as we honor and remember him, life giving things would happen to bring Jesus, the Light of the world, into the dark places. We’ve included a short bio of Stan’s life so that you might know a little about a very great man.

The proceeds from the tournament will go to help build a medical clinic on the island of Tisai in Uganda. Jeff visited this village on his last mission to Uganda and couldn’t believe the poverty on this island. There was absolutely no infrastructure…no roads, no electricity, no anything…just lots of people trying to survive. We were introduced to these people by Chris Bond with Designs for Hope and Pastor Martin who lives near Tisai. Chris had just drilled some wells so that there would be fresh water to drink, which will cut down on the sickness caused by dirty drinking water. Pastor Martin has a church in a nearby area that has been evangelizing and helping the people. After clean drinking water, their greatest need was for a medical clinic. There are doctors in the area that will take turns coming to the clinic, but they just needed a facility and equipment/supplies.
If you haven’t registered your team yet for the tournament the details are at www.trecmud.com. If you like you can print the registration form and pay with a check or email the registration form with your credit card information to trecmail@gmail.com. Please register your team by Friday, October 14. Thank you for supporting TREC in reaching the lost for Christ.

Below I’ve added some photo’s of Jeff and friends traveling to the island of Tisai. The motorcycles you see on the boat were how they traveled once on the island. Also note that the water in the lake was what the people on the island were drinking before the wells were dug.

Stan Sherlin Bio

Stan Sherlin was born in Cleveland Tennessee, son of Jay and Lois Sherlin. Athletics was a big part of his life from a very young age and he participated in almost every sport. Eventually he found a greater love for basketball and golf and played both at the college level. After college, golf became his primary sport and for a short time he pursued a career in the field. After meeting Cheris LeFevre, the woman he would marry, he settled into a business career and golf became his greatest hobby.

Stan had a successful career in the insurance field and in his later years worked for Aflac. Golf was a large part of how Stan connected to other men both in his personal and business life. Stan competed in Alabama and all over the Southeast and was among some of the best amateur golfers in the state.

At the age of 58, Stan was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. After a 16 month fight, he went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2020. He left behind one daughter, Emma, whom he adored.

Stan’s faith and relationship with the Lord was THE most important thing to him and he was so passionate about sharing the gospel through his words and actions. Stan would be pleased to know that this tournament will fund a medical clinic that will benefit so many under-served people in Uganda.
