Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread — Matthew 6:11

In my personal studies I have been spending time in the model prayer Jesus gives us in Matthew 6:9-13. When you have a passage that is as familiar as this one easy, it is easy to quickly read over, but I have forced myself to slow down and meditate on this passage of scripture. Verse 11 has hit hard this week: “Give us this day our daily bread.”

As I read this, the word “contentment” comes to my mind. Be content with what the Lord has provided for the day. Our brothers and sister in Cuba are teaching me how to live this out. I have a video call with Yunior and Albert every Wednesday to get updates on what’s happening in Cuba, how the Lord is moving and time in prayer. On one of these calls I asked them how their week has been going and they responded, “It has been going great. We have spent the last 5 days fasting and praying.” You know how hard the conditions in Cuba are currently and it is a struggle to get food. I asked if they were fasting because the Lord led them to fast or were they fasting because they had no food. Yunior simply replied: We are fasting. God said He would meet our needs according to His riches in glory. If He hasn’t provided food, then we don’t need.”

With great joy they were content with what the Lord was doing and what they had. They are personally living out this passage:

“Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Philippians 4:11-13 NKJV

I am thankful that God has brought these men into our lives. They continually make me want to follow Jesus more intensely no matter the circumstance.

We are currently able to get funds into Cuba to purchase food. The window is closing so if you are interested in helping our brothers and sisters during these difficult days, please do so as soon as possible. All funds given will go to purchase food. On your gift, designate “For Food” and we will know exactly where to apply the funds.

Thanks again for all you do and for making a difference in the world. Let’s pray that we will be content in any situation, knowing that the circumstances we are going through aren’t worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed to us in heaven.

Go, Fight, Win,

Jeff

God’s answers are wiser than our prayers. We have been in pretty consistent contact with our friends in Cuba despite the lack of power and internet. They assure us they are ok, but admit things are very serious and at times dangerous. They are taking care of people and each

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 We can make all the plans we want. We can assemble teams, gather supplies, and book plane tickets—but the Lord determines our steps. And honestly, would we want it any other way? Here’s how things stand
