Faithfulness lives where love is stronger than instinct. - Paul Carvel
Yunior gave a testimony this week of the faithfulness of God, and I knew I had to share it with you. It is a reminder to me that the Lord is in the smallest and most insignificant details.
As you know Yaili, Yunior’s wife, is having some health issues. She is still in the hospital in Havana. When I say “hospital” it’s not what you are thinking. It is unsanitary, over-crowded, and poorly run. Yunior said that there are 2 rooms connected by a small bathroom with 4 patients in each room, and most of the bathrooms are not in working order. Because there is a shortage of everything no meals are served. Patients must rely on family or friends to bring them food.
Yunior was telling us that last Sunday he was visiting Yaili and she told him the toilet was not working. He went into the bathroom to see what the problem was and he flushed the toilet and it over flowed. It was a terribly disgusting mess and he decided to go ask for a plunger. He asked a nurse and she told him they didn’t have a plunger. He then went to the front desk and was told again there was no plungers. He told the lady he was going to go out to find one at a store, and the lady laughed and told him it was a fools errand that he would never find a plunger on a Sunday because most of the stores were closed. He told her, “I need a plunger and my God will supply one.”
He said he didn’t know which way to go once he got out on the street, but saw an arrow on a traffic light and decided to go in the direction the arrow was pointing. He walked around asking people if they knew where he could get a plunger and couldn’t find one. After a while, he stopped on the corner and just stood there not knowing what to do. As he was standing on the corner he saw a lady making her way down the street selling a few items. He waved her down and sure enough the lady had ONE plunger and a few brooms she was selling.
Yunior bought the plunger and a broom, and as he was walking away so happy that the Lord had provided, he turned around and said, “I have to tell you what my God just did for me.” So Yunior proceeded to tell her the whole story. The lady said, “so, you’re a Christian?” And he said, “Yes!” So she began to tell him that she and her husband are also Christians and had a financial need. She didn’t know how they were going to manage. The Lord told her to take the brooms and the plunger to sell them, but she thought it was a silly thing to try and sell the items, but her faithfulness was stronger than her instinct. That’s when she met Yunior on the street and now the Lord had supplied both of their needs.
Yunior was beside himself as she was telling her story. He rushed back to the hospital and everyone was amazed that he had found a plunger. He got to testify to the goodness of God to the lady at the front desk, to the nurses and doctors, and to the other patients!
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.
Psalm 37:23
Jeff is leaving today for India. It has been five years since he was last there, and to say he’s excited would be an understatement! It’s been at least that long since he’s seen Jiwan, been to the villages where new work was just starting, and been with the all the people who we’ve loved and encouraged through the years. I can’t wait to hear all the stories when he gets home.
In the meantime, would you pray for Jeff and Chris that they would stay healthy as they travel? We count it a privilege to partner with you. Thank you for your support and encouragement as we share the love of Jesus to the lost and hurting. YOU are making a difference in the world!
