We will have all eternity to celebrate the victories, but only a few hours before sunset to win them. Amy Carmichael
The Lord Is At Work
Sometimes the Lord reminds us that even when the world around us feels increasingly chaotic, He is still at work, providing for His people and opening doors for the Gospel in ways we could never have imagined.
This month, we’ve seen that truth in a very special way through our friends in Cuba.
Miracles in Cuba
As we’ve continued praying about the desperate situation in Cuba, the Lord brought something across our path that we believe is an answer to prayer. We learned about a solar power system we could purchase and install in the homes of pastors and at their churches. What a blessing! With electricity becoming increasingly unreliable, these systems will provide power for the everyday needs of their homes and create a more dependable place for ministry.
We’ve begun with Yunior and Albert’s homes and their church, and we hope to provide systems for three additional homes in the coming months. We are so thankful the Lord has shown us a practical way to help our friends during such a difficult season.
You can be part of this effort by giving through our website at trecmud.com/support-us. Every gift helps us come alongside our partners and provide practical support as they continue serving their families, churches, and communities.
What a privilege to be part of the way God is caring for His people!
But that isn’t the only story of God’s provision coming out of Cuba.
Yunior recently shared something with us that sounds straight out of the pages of Scripture. Because of the severe fuel and water shortages, water trucks have been unable to keep their regular schedules. Yunior and Albert told us it had been a month since they and their neighbors had received a delivery of water.
Yet Yunior’s cistern has continued to produce water. When friends and neighbors come asking for water, Yunior says his answer is always yes. He refuses to hoard what he has while the people around him are suffering. He shares with whoever comes, and somehow, the water has not run out!
Doesn’t that sound familiar?
In 2 Kings 4, we read about the widow whose small supply of oil continued to flow as she poured it into one vessel after another. God provided beyond what she could have imagined, and what she had became a means of provision for her family.
We cannot explain exactly what is happening with Yunior’s cistern, but we can rejoice in the provision he is experiencing. And we are especially encouraged by his heart. He is choosing generosity over fear, trusting God enough to share rather than hold tightly to what he has.
What a beautiful picture of faith in action! In the middle of a crisis, God is providing, and one of His servants is making sure that provision reaches others.
Please continue praying for our Cuban friends. Their needs remain overwhelming, but stories like this remind us that even in the darkest circumstances, the Lord has not abandoned His people.
When the World Changes, the Gospel Continues
Meanwhile, in India and Nepal, political unrest and uncertainty continue to affect the places where we serve. The changing political climate in India and Nepal has shifted the attention of those in power, and for the moment, our Christian brothers and sisters have experienced some relief from the pressure they previously faced. We are thankful for this reprieve, but everyone remains cautious about what the future may hold.
Years ago, we knew there might come a day when visiting some of our ministry points would become difficult or even impossible. We never knew exactly what that would look like, but the Lord has been preparing us in ways we didn’t fully understand at the time.
He has given us something far more lasting than the ability to travel to a particular place. He has given us deep relationships with our partners, a shared faith in Jesus, and a common passion for making the Gospel known. We are not simply visitors who come to do ministry and then return home. We (that includes YOU) are brothers and sisters in Christ, working together for His Kingdom.
And that means the work can continue even when we cannot be there in person.
Our partners are faithfully serving their own communities, encouraging local believers, and sharing the hope of Jesus. We can continue to support, equip, encourage, and pray for them, trusting the Lord to direct our steps and theirs.
The world may change. Borders may close. Plans may be delayed. But the mission of God has not changed, and His work does not depend on our ability to be everywhere.
Looking Ahead: Opportunities to Join the Work
Even with the uncertainty around us, the Lord continues to open doors. Here are a few opportunities we are praying about as we look toward the end of this year and into the next.
Thailand — The Great Commission Congress
Jeff will be traveling to Bangkok this Thursday with Matt and Wendie Mays to attend the first Great Commission Congress hosted by Messenger Ministries. While there, they plan to connect with Nepali pastors known to Jiwan and explore how TREC might come alongside them in serving and strengthening local churches. Please pray for meaningful connections, wisdom, and clear direction for any future partnerships.
Ukraine — Encouraging Those Living in the Midst of War
Jeff has also been invited to Ukraine in December by 9941 Ministries. He met Romy here in the States, and the two quickly connected as they shared stories and their hearts for ministry. Romy’s work focuses on widows and people living in war-torn areas who have been left to face tremendous hardship.
We are grateful for this developing friendship and the opportunity to explore how the Lord might use it to bring encouragement and support to those who are suffering. Please pray for safety, wisdom, and the people they hope to serve.
India — Pastors’ Training in February
We are also working toward another trip to India in February, where we hope to spend time with Jiwan and Esther and participate in pastors’ training. The dates and final details have not yet been confirmed, but we are praying that the Lord will make a way.
If you are a pastor in the United States who has a heart for missions and would be interested in learning more about this opportunity, we would love to hear from you. Please pray with us as we seek the Lord’s direction and determine what this trip will look like.
Be Part of What God Is Doing
Don’t be distracted by the world…keep your eyes on King Jesus!
He is providing water in Cuba. He is opening doors for practical help through solar power. He is sustaining our brothers and sisters in places where following Jesus can be costly. He is building relationships, connecting His people, and continuing to make the Gospel known.
And He invites us to be part of it.
Would you join us in praying for our friends and partners in Cuba, India, Nepal, Ukraine, and the other places where the Lord is at work? Would you consider helping provide solar power for a pastor’s home, supporting an upcoming ministry opportunity, or exploring whether the Lord might be calling you to go?
There is a place for each of us in the work of the Kingdom. You don’t have to travel across the world to make a difference. Sometimes it begins with a prayer, a gift, an encouraging word, or a willingness to say yes when the Lord opens a door.
Thank you for praying with us, giving as the Lord leads, and standing alongside our brothers and sisters around the world. We are grateful to be on this journey together.
For His Kingdom,
Jeff and Trudy
